Pic Plant of the Month - Vine Maple
The last of the leaves are falling from the vine maples. The vine maple is a cousin to the Big Leaf Maple. Walking around our West Seattle parks, it is amazing to see the size of some of the leaves that have fallen from those big trees. But I like the grace and delicacy of the vine maples, and often their colors are brighter and more varied and vibrant than those of Big Leaf Maples. In that, they remind me of Japanese maples.

Car Counselor: Help! My car resembles a swimming pool!
Opening your car door in the morning and seeing a pool of water is a horrible feeling, but we have entered the time of year where automotive repair shops, body shops and detail shops begin seeing cars that have accumulated a large amount of water on the inside.

Park information overlooked
The "No Change to Park" campaign was present and large at the 'public workshop' for California Place Park. Steve Shay numbered the attendance at 80 when, in fact, it was closer to 100. The proponents who spoke for No Change outnumbered the playground supporters 3 to 1. Again, Shay states the $15,000 will install a "Playscape" on the site. This is not the case, as the $15,000 is for promotion and design only.

Which truth, Congressman?
In the Review and Outlook section of Friday's (Nov. 14) Wall Street Journal was an editorial which speaks to McDermott's plans to make serious changes to the 401(k). The editorial alludes to McDermott and company moving towards the nationalization or otherwise contradicting what McDermott said in his letter to the West Seattle Herald.

Common ground on park
My hope is that through the design meetings the community is able to come together and see that our needs and desires are not diametrically opposed; in fact I believe we share significant common ground.
