Orchard Street Ravine Trail dedicated

Sunday, October 12, 2008

After two years of planning and planting, the 2.2 acre Orchard Street Ravine Trail opened Saturday, October 11. Mayor Nickels, Parks Superintendent Timothy Gallagher, Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, and others spoke to a small but enthusiastic crowd of nature lovers and volunteers who helped shape the park.

Located one block east of 39th Avenue at Southwest Orchard Street, the two-loop trail winds through a variety of both existing and planted flora. And, if you awake at the crack of dawn you might see some intriguing fauna on the trail, including the red fox, the red-tailed hawk, and the red shafted flicker. The site, with its "red" critters and green vegetation was "rescued" from developers with room enough for eight homes, according to spokesmen at the event.
